knee-hipIndian River Medical Center’s acclaimed orthopedic program performs 1,200 hip, knee, shoulder and spine surgeries each year. Our program has been designated as a Blue Center of Distinction for Knee and Hip Replacement by Florida Blue, and awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™.

Our five-star program is staffed with over a dozen orthopedic surgeons specializing in joint reconstruction, general orthopedics, sports, spine and hand surgery who operate on patients using the latest surgical techniques. Many are minimally invasive procedures, which minimize the size of incisions as well as the trauma to surrounding tissue. At Indian River Medical Center, our surgeons perform a wide variety of orthopedic procedures including:

  • Total and partial knee replacement
  • Knee revision
  • Knee arthroscopy
  • Total hip replacement
  • Hip revision
  • ACL repairs
  • Meniscal repairs
  • Total shoulder replacement
  • Reverse shoulder replacement
  • Shoulder revision
  • Shoulder arthroscopy
  • Minimally invasive spine surgery

Joint Camp

At Indian River Medical Center, Joint Program Coordinator Maria Puras, RN, guides patients through the joint replacement journey beginning with our pre-operative Joint Camp. Offered every Tuesday at 10 am, this class covers all aspects of surgery, including pre-op preparation and what to expect after surgery through discharge.

Orthopedic Unit

All orthopedic surgical patients recover and rehabilitate in our recently renovated Orthopedic Unit, which features 23 large, private rooms designed to meet the specific needs of orthopedic patients. Located on the hospital’s 5th floor, the Orthopedic Unit cared for 1,900 patients last year and is designated as a ‘clean floor” – patients with infections are not permitted. This restriction prevents the spread of infection and critically assists wound healing.

American Joint Replacement Registry

IRMC is a proud member of the American Joint Replacement Registry, an organization which contributes to the overall advancement of the field of orthopedics through data and data sharing. This national registry of trends and outcomes is a powerful tool that has helped improve the care of hip and knee replacement patients.
